FAQs
Who qualifies for SCS programs?
Anyone impacted by the justice system-at any stage (investigation, pre-trial, sentencing, incarceration, or reentry). If you’re unsure where to start, choose Get Help / Programs in the form.
How fast will someone respond?
Within 2-3 business days. If your note is time-sensitive, toggle Urgent in the form.
How much does it cost?
All SCS services are free for participants.
Is Therapy Resources really free?
Yes. SCS fully covers sessions with approved clinicians and coordinates scheduling/billing. You won’t be charged.
Are programs virtual or in person?
We are virtual-first for accessibility; select workshops or cohorts may be offered in person where feasible.
Do you help people who expect to serve time?
Yes. We provide pre-incarceration planning (mental, practical, and logistics prep) and coordinate support for your return.
Do you support people just coming home (reentry)?
Yes. We focus on first 0-12 months: routines, employment, housing, finances, therapy, and community.
I'm contacting you on someone's behalf-can you help?
Yes. Use the form, share your relationship and the participant’s time zone. We’ll reply with next steps.
How do partnerships or sponsorships work for companies?
Choose Partnerships in the form. Share goals, timeline, and locations. We’ll propose options (program sponsorships, employee volunteering, events/workshops, in-kind support) with clear KPls.
Can you co-brand or do press with us?
Case-by-case. Participant privacy comes first. We’ll align on language and approvals before public use.
What KPls do you report to partners/sponsors?
Common KPls: therapy starts/completion, job offers & 90-day retention, credit improvements, group attendance, and participant satisfaction, plus approved stories.
How do media interviews or speaking requests work?
Select Media/Speaking and include date, audience, format (virtual/in-person). topics, and deadlines. We prioritize time-sensitive press.
How do donations and tax receipts work?
Select Donation/Receipt in the form. We process tax-deductible gifts via our 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, GVNGorg (EIN 81-2446261).
Can I donate crypto or stock?
Yes-Engiven for card/ACH/crypto; DonateStock for equities. Both route to SCS through GVNGorg. See our Donate page for links.
Can I donate by check or wire?
Yes. Checks/wires are made to GVNGorg with “Second Chance Services” in the memo. Full instructions are on our Donate page.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Yes. We use privacy-first practices. Programs have clear confidentiality guidelines; limits (e.g., imminent harm) are explained before you begin.
Do mentors/volunteers need lived justice experience?
Welcome, but not required. We provide training, boundaries, and staff support. Select Volunteer/Mentor in the form to start.
Are background checks required?
Only for certain roles (e.g., in-person facility work). We’ll let you know if it applies to your role.
How long does it take to get matched to a mentor or therapist?
We aim to match within 3-10 days depending on needs, availability, and language/schedule fit. Tell us if it’s urgent.
I'm overwhelmed and don't know which program to pick-what should I do?
Choose Get Help / Programs in the form and write a sentence about your situation. We’ll route you to the best first step and walk with you from there.
